Donor & Recipient Evaluations for Intended Parents

Building your family through donor sperm, donor eggs, or embryos is deeply meaningful.
It can also bring up complex emotions, important questions, and decisions that deserve thoughtful space.

At Empress Counseling, PLLC, I provide third-party psychoeducational consultations for individuals and couples pursuing family building through donor conception or assisted reproductive treatment.

These consultations are supportive, educational, and required by many fertility clinics prior to treatment.

For Intended Parents

If you’ve been referred for a donor egg/sperm recipient evaluation, you might be wondering:

  • Is this a test?

  • What if I say the wrong thing?

  • What are they looking for?

  • Will this delay my treatment?

Let me reassure you:
This is not about gatekeeping. It is about preparation, reflection, and support. As both a reproductive mental health therapist and a parent through egg donation, I bring professional expertise and lived understanding to this work.

What We Discuss

  • Emotional and psychological readiness

  • Relationship dynamics (if applicable)

  • Expectations and concerns about donor conception

  • Grief and loss related to genetics or infertility

  • Identity and meaning-making

  • Disclosure planning (how and when to tell your child, family, or others)

  • Ethical and long-term considerations

All intended parents are required to attend.

Consultations are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Washington.

Following the session, I provide psychoeducational resources and answer questions about the emotional, medical, and relational aspects of parenting a donor-conceived child.
